My View on Present state of Jharkhand and Bihar
|
My understanding of state of Bihar as it is now.Wherever I will say old Bihar it will be Bihar + Jharkhand. Bihar will be present Bihar. 1. Bihar of today has 4-5 predominant faces. Agriculture based economy, Politcal awarness (or overawarness of masses), democratic phase of expression of anger, hardworking middle class students and export of skilled and unskilled labours. 1.1 Old bihar have a big share of MP quota and resources of minerals. What happened after independence that nobody has taken care of agriculture reforms because politicians were getting royality of minerals. While flood was and is a big problem for productivity of food grains others are no land reforms. If Bihar would have been divided in fifties it would have been forced to take "green revolution". But that is a history. What happens nowadays that labours are not available in many districts because they find Punjab farmers pay them much more than local farmers. Most of land which Bihari farmers have are small small pieces in multiple locations which is a hindrance in getting the better productivity. This is also an indirect cause of naxal movements (besides proximity of West Bengal -a communist state).
1.2 Strangely my experince after living in 5-6 places in Bihar, Roorkee, Noida/Delhi and visiting Orissa, WB, Gujrat, Maharastra, Tamilnadu, that a common people is more politically aware. Hence everybody wanna have an opinion is all the matters. Given smaller opportunity window we need more followers than leaders.
1.3 Laloo yadav is just face of anger of section .But it is unfortunate that this person don't have a vision else he would have been the right person to make necessary changes. To understand this anger, lets see how Bihar was ruled after the independence. Till 1977 it was mostly ruled by congress. For some reson and the other it is belived Mrs Gandhi has installed chief minister with highest bid to contribute the party. (It is also part of foddar scam which was started by Mr. Mishra). The second aspcet is that after JP movement have made students feel too much power at that time (start of indicipline in campus) (Laloo yadav,Nitish Kumar and Sushil Modi [BJP] are child of that movement.). To appease it when Indira returned into power she has helped politicised the campuses in her favour via CM.Also, the people who were in power used thier influnce to benefit their caste (it was narrow gain because overall development of state could have anyway provided better opportunities to all). There are other factors to this.
1.3 Even with situation which is in bad shape middle class students are hardworking. Mostly for their future and partially because of tremendeous social pressure to do good in a soceity with small opportunity. Even till today in civil services maximum % is from Bihar. And in IIT entrace also their performnace is quite good. when their were apprx 2000 seats in IIT around 300 students use to qualify from Bihar (old Bihar). It is true mostly they landup working in other places. Do anybody remember when Frank Pallone visited India last time he visited Delhi and Patna .Anybody knows why, Because in NJ a large number of contribution comes from Indians and a large portion of which comes from Bihari doctors here.
Okay so what are hopes or potential of change from here. 1. Now Bihar is divided. Many Bihari thinks it is bad because revenue generation mines has been cut from Bihar. In my opinion this is good. Now governments have no option than reforming the agriculture. Since Laloo is not able to use the opportunity, people will throw him out in some future date. Nobody can sustain due to social anger without giving anything to the society . there will be a day when even the people who have voted for him will realize that enough is enough now they not need just a symbol. In my opinion it will take upto 5 more years. However Given the present seen of leadership in Bihar the only a few person I can see who have some vision and character (No body is pure white in politics) are (Nitish or George). But they won't have the votes equation 5 years from now. So, that is worrying part for me. Right now I can't visualize a leader who will be a good and powerful in 5 years term. But hopefully democracy will create such a person. Jharkhand other hand needs good leader also. Inder Singh Namdhari is a good administrator. I wish he becomes CM.Last time it was his chance, lets hope Arjun Munda have better vision.
2. The other potential of present Bihar besides agriculture is Tourism. But it will be only get a boost once agriculture is reformed. Because reform of agriculture is necessary to create more opportunity that will be needed to control mafia and build good road infrastructure. It can be a number one tourist destination for Buddhist, Janis from India as well as Japan, Srilanka, China, Thailand and other countries where India has exported Buddhism in past.
Some others things which you people may or may not know about Bihar. 1. The biggest festival of Bihar is Chhat. It is Sun-worship. It is believed that it is popular due to "Ang (now bhagalpur) Naresh Karna of Mahabharat" . I am not sure when it started. But it is unique to Bihar and Biharis. I don't know any such festivle in other part of India. 2. One of the holiest place of Buddhists is Bodh gaya. And for Janis Parasnath(now Jharkhand) and Pawapuri (In same Nalanda district which had Nalanda University of Chanakya - also George Fernandes constituency) .
3. Once Japanese prime minister visted Bodha gaya and told Laloo he can make Bihar a Japan in 3 years, And Laloo |
